This is a question to which every music major must developed a strong, satisfactory answer. What are your goals in pursuing a degree in music? Are they reasonable? Will they lead to a career in which you can support yourself and your family? Do you love music enough to make it this big of a part of your life?

There are many different answers to these questions; some are reasonable, some are not. This is where the trusted advice of teachers and parents will prove invaluable. A music degree can take you in a lot of directions, often ones that you never anticipated as you began. It is your responsibility to make sure you end up where you want to go.

Performance: A number of music majors begin studying with the dream of making a living off performing music professionally. The majority of them, however, will not end up doing so and only a very, very small percentage of them will make a living solely through performance. The professional music scene, whether popular, orchestral, operatic, jazz, etc. operates much like the professional sports world: a very small amount of people make very high salaries, while the majority make a small amount as a part-time job or hobby. The wise music performance major (even one that is very confident in their ability) continues to nurture a parallel career plan that can support them in the almost certain event that they will not make a living being a Michael Jackson or Pavarotti.

Education: Most music majors make preparing to be a music educator one of the central parts of their education. I believe that this is crucial, not only because music teaching jobs are much easier to come by than lucrative performing jobs, but also because I believe that the best performers are those who know enough about their instrument from teaching it. The areas in which a music student can later teach music are very broad and flexible – everything from a self-employed private teacher to a public high school teacher, to a college professor – and can be combined with a semi-professional performing career to make it more feasible. As students are pursuing their degree, they should be sure to take the required steps to qualify for these positions:

Private Music Teacher: No degree needed but strongly encouraged, one-on-one teaching and small business experience needed to be successful.

K-12 Music Teacher: Music education degree encouraged (but performance majors can take remedial classes to qualify). Teaching credential required in many states (an additional year of study).

College Professor: Doctoral degree or Masters plus extensive performance experience usually required. High school teaching experience often also important to winning position.

Musicology and Composition: A third major area that music majors sometimes pursue is in the area of musicology (including music theory, history and perhaps socio-ethnic studies) and composition. With the rare exception of a handful of movie composers such as John Williams, these areas are designed to lead towards a career of being a college professor who perhaps publishes music or books on the side. For more academic music majors, this area can be not only extremely satisfying but also fairly lucrative.

An important thing to remember about musical careers is that they are almost never simple and easy. They almost always, a least for a beginning period when careers are still developing, require either a secondary part-time job or free-lance work as a private music teacher. (A possible, common exception to this is becoming a public school teacher right out of college.) Many young, budding opera singers hold a “day job” as a bank teller or web designer while working their way up in the industry. Composers almost always sit on university faculties and teach their share of theory and history classes. Making a career in music work requires great faith in oneself, ingenuity and persistence. This, however, is not very different from the chances or demands of a business entrepreneur, financial consultant, or many other professionals. Though the financial rewards may be typically a little lower than these other areas, the job satisfaction is usually much greater.

A final possible career path for a college music major is often overlooked, but is extremely viable and I would encourage it: complete a Bachelors in Music and then move on a professional degree in another area such as business, medicine, law, etc. The first obvious questions would be Why in the world would you waste four years studying music theory and an instrument when you won’t use any of it in your career? Answering this question exposes some of the common ignorance of the college music major curriculum. Music majors graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and/or Science degree (like any other degree) are required to take a dozen or so “general” courses designed to give them a well-rounded education. This includes classes in the hard sciences (chemistry, physics, biology), soft sciences (philosophy, psychology, sociology, humanities), math, history, literature, foreign languages, performing arts, etc. That means that a music major will have to take many of the classes they would have to take as any other major, and can usually easily take the prerequisite courses to apply for a graduate program in other subjects. Making this work, however, will require some research into what prerequisites the desired professional program has and how they can be met at your undergraduate school.

Would being a music major put them at a disadvantage? On the contrary, studies have shown that medical schools take a higher percentage of applying music majors than even bio-chemistry majors. (66% to 44%, see “The Case for Music in the Schools,” Phi Delta Kappan, Feb. 1994). Graduate schools, as well as employers, are usually excited to accept music majors for the strong dedication they learn from their training, as well as the artistic outlook and creativity they developed. It is not at all uncommon for very skilled musicians to work in a lucrative Silicon Valley software position while performing in a community or company symphony on the side (see Grant Venerable, “The Paradox of the Silicon Savior”).

The quality of your practice is much more important than the quantity. The old saying “practice makes perfect” is only true if the practice itself is perfect. Here are 7 tips to help make your practice more effective and efficient.

Practice motions slowly

The muscular memory of our bodies allows us to physically carry out patterns of motion with little or no conscious involvement. Examples of muscular memory include walking, riding a bicycle, typing, and of course playing a musical instrument.

In order to develop this memory, the muscles require training in the form of repeated conscious guidance from the mind. First the mind must learn the pattern. Then the mind must “teach” the pattern to the muscles.

The mind initially must control all the motions of the muscles. The more controlled and precise the motions, the more quickly the muscles will develop muscle memory.

Slow practice also allows the mind to teach “antagonistic muscles” to relax. Antagonistic muscles are those that move in opposite directions. By relaxing antagonistic muscles you can reduce tension and facilitate faster and easier performance and avoid potential injury.

Practice in small cells

A “practice cell” is simply a finite series of motions. Musical cells can correspond to anything from a few notes to an entire work. When practicing, it is important to practice small cells of just a few notes. Practicing small cells limits the amount of information the muscles have to learn at one time. It also facilitates the mind’s focus and concentration.

Link the end of one cell to the beginning of the next

To help the muscles develop a sense of continuum throughout the piece of music, the last motion in a cell should be the first motion of the following cell.

Practice each cell in bursts

Once the muscles have learned a pattern, they will be capable of executing it without conscious control. Initiate the pattern through a conscious command and allow the muscles to execute it in a burst.

Don’t practice mistakes

For every repetition required to learn a pattern of motion, it takes 7 times the number of repetitions to change the pattern. If in the course of your practice you make an error, stop. Review in your mind the pattern. And further reduce the speed of your motions.

Pause between repetitions

When dealing with repetitive activities, the mind is better able to focus when the repetitions are broken up by short pauses. After two or three repetitions, pause for about 30 seconds to regain focus.

Take frequent breaks and don’t “over-practice”

B.F. Skinner and other experts have found that the mind’s ability to learn drops significantly after prolonged intense concentration. Research shows that studying too long (i.e. more than four hours) can deplete chemicals in the brain necessary for learning. Therefore, it is best to take frequent breaks (a 5 minute break about every 20-25 minutes) and practice no more than 4 hours consecutively.

By applying these techniques, you can dramatically improve the quality of your practice. You’ll be able to use your time more efficiently and increase the effectiveness of your practice.

HOW TO CREATE A GOOD SOUNDING BEAT USING A BEAT MAKER – THIS IS EASIER THAN YOU THINK
—————————————

Bottom line is that your beat maker should and must be able to do whatever you want it to do. Bottom line is that your beat maker should and must be able to do whatever you want it to do. Note that you do not have to complete the percussion part all in one sitting, but adding the hi-hat and the sneer parts for your beat will make it sound much better.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN RAP BEATS?
—————————————

There are many things that you can do to help bring your music to the next level and here are some tips to help you do so. To make or create beats is nothing but fun and most rewarding experience that you can do in terms of Hip-Hop music.

SIMPLE STEPS IN MAKING A HIP HOP BEAT
—————————————

Single out each track and try to make sure that the track sounds good by itself then equalize it if there is a need for it, but if each track can stand alone and sounds good, then the whole beat will definitely sound better. When you distort a track by mistake, be sure to check the instrument that is at the low end or check the boom (something like a bass, kick, or sub) as these tend to distort often. Panning is done for all kinds of reasons to give each and every track its own tiny space in the stereo. You have to lay down a melody which most Hip Hop beat makers usually have trouble doing. The most basic beat that you can make starts with either a 2 or even a 4 bar intro, a 16 bar verse, a 8 bar chorus, a 16 bar verse, and a 8 bars chorus which are common in Rap songs today. You have to layer your beat with some toms, cowbells, symbols, or layer your beat with any instrument that you want to use. If you chose a rap style artist, then think of a rap artist that you would want to create a beat for and by doing so, this will truly make your beat making experience a lot easier.

HOW TO MAKE HIP HOP BEATS USING HIP HOP BEATS MAKING SOFTWARE?
—————————————

You will not have the need to use one of those highly paid musicians, and the pricey equipments just for you to come up with a hot Hip Hop beat.

TIPS ON HOW TO BUY INSTRUMENTAL BEATS SOFTWARE ONLINE
—————————————

If there is a low quality of the online beat preview, it will be hard for you to gauge on how good the beat sound really is. Here are the things that you should do before you decide to purchase instrumental beats online:

If you plan on purchasing instrumental beats online, you have to know the difference of a exclusive and a non-exclusive right to an instrumental Hip Hop beat. Even famous Rap Artists now look for their instrumental Hip Hop beats online.

MAKE BEATS JUST LIKE A PRO
—————————————

In order for you to make the beats that you need for your Hip Hop track, you can hit the key/s in whichever way you desire. By practicing or by simply listening to your instruments you can learn how to make great beats which is a great way for you to master your craft. There is a software tool named Fruit Loops and this is then used in making beats for your songs.

WHAT SOFTWARE TO USE IF YOU WANT TO LEARN HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN RAP BEATS
—————————————

The Roland Fantom X6 is totally worth it. The Korg Triton Extreme is one and the best originators in the Hip Hop world of today.

THE BEST AND MOST POPULAR SOFTWARE ONLINE
—————————————

You too can hear sounds created using Sonic Pro in popular rap sounds of today. The Fruity Loops software is great for beginners due to its affordable rate and its easy to use functions.

When it comes to learning an instrument, practice always makes perfect. It’s not enough to understand the technical skill required to play; you must also integrate that technique into your playing so that it becomes habit. Only then can you begin to infuse your own personal style and personality into your playing. When it comes to playing the guitar, especially, learning important finger positions can prove tricky; but when you find an easy guitar song to learn, you can not only create the base from which all future learning can grow, you can quickly and easily boost your confidence as a fledgling guitar player.

You can learn guitar in one of several ways. If you are serious about beginning on this particular musical journey and wish to become a skilled guitar player who has a repertoire of songs at their disposal, then it may be best to work with a reputable and experienced guitar teacher who will give you hands-on lessons at their home or yours. Guaranteed that one of the first things you will tackle – after proper finger placement – is identifying that first easy guitar song to learn.

If guitar lessons with a teacher are cost-prohibitive, or if you are not interested in taking guitar on as a serious endeavor, you can do much to teach yourself at home. There are reasonably priced books, sheet music, and videos that will help you learn the fundamentals of guitar and give you a choice of an easy guitar song to learn. If guitar is simply a hobby or you only wish to have one good song under your belt, this may be the way for you to go.

Choose an easy guitar song to learn based upon your personal musical style. Or perhaps you have a particular song in mind that you would like to play in order to surprise someone you love or impress a group of people at an upcoming event. In either case, find that easy guitar song to learn and then practice as much as possible. With guitar, the initial awkwardness comes from learning your finger positions. But once you get used to it, you will be able to play enough chords to tackle the song you have chosen.

Choosing from among the songs to learn – if you don’t have a particular one in mind – may seem overwhelming. Remember that an easy guitar song to learn often has a certain amount of repetition in its chords; that’s what you want to look for – something th 1000 at can be mastered with ease – due in large part to the fact that you are often repeating the same chords.

Once you find an easy guitar song to learn, you can be well on your way to enjoying the guitar; you may even find that once you learn that song, you have a desire to start learning other songs as you continue your journey with the guitar.

It is recommended that fresh learners must start the beginner guitar lessons from chapter 1 and should practice them at least for one week. Go through the steps with a calm mind. Stay relaxed while learning beginner guitar lessons and you would be able to manage it for sure. Do you want to impress your friends and associates with your skills? Then the following steps would definitely help you out.

Step 1- The most important thing is to sit in a right position and keep your body relaxed. Hold your instrument and be sure it is maintained by the support of your leg. Be seated at the border of your chair and keep your back in straight but relax position. It must be bending little towards you. This sitting arrangement will make it simple to play the instrument.

Step 2- Take the instrument and put the strap above your shoulder. Adjust the strap in such a way that it is placed over your mid-body. Give support to the neck of the instrument with your left hand and place your right hand at its bridge. These first two steps in the beginner guitar lessons will guarantee you to have smart control over the instrument.

Step 3- Take some safety measures while you are playing it because it puts a lot of stress on the thumb and wrist which might result in serious injuries. Thus, correct position of hands is must. Hands ought to be in a relaxed state to avoid nervous tension. Place the fingers on the fret board in a way that it is easy to play on the series of strings. You have to push the strings correctly.

Step 4- To ensure how to press the strings on the fret board correctly you will have some essential tips in the beginner guitar lessons. Be clear about them and do cut finger nails. The tips of your fingers should run on the strings. Make sure every part of strings sounds clear and are working properly and are not vibrating or sounding slowly.

Step 5- The thumb and index fingers should be held in an accurate manner. If you are doing it correctly the required sounds would come out from it.

By practicing continuously you will become a decent player. Your dream to play it on the stage in front of thousand of spectators would come to existence and you will find yourself as a super star after regular practice. These steps can teach not only the music lovers but also others who want to learn it as a hobby. Use this stratagem of the beginner guitar lessons and very quickly you could be a part of your own band.

For the most part it could be distinguished by the type of instruments in the musical piece. Most modern types of tunes only have a couple of instrumentations used in its creation, whereas classical audio uses a number of types of instrumentation. Musicians of this type of music are extremely skilled in their chosen instrument because of the detailed compositions.

The instruments utilized in classical music commonly come from five or so unique groups of instruments, including string instruments, woodwinds, brass instruments and percussion instruments. The use of these types of instruments typically makes up a symphonic orchestra. When the human voice is added to this ensemble of instrument, and opera is formed.

The forms of classical music are numerous as and tend being incredibly nicely defined. The concerto can be a musical work by which one particular solo instrument is accompanied by an orchestra. This type of new music was established inside the Baroque period and has continued to become a strong music force these days. The symphony is often a musical composition and is commonly for an orchestra. The opera is an art form by which singer and musicians work together to produce a function that combines text and musical. An additional type is known as dance new music and its certain use would be to facilitate or accompany dancing. This kind can either be a whole music piece or part of a larger music arrangement. The suite kind of songs is an ordered set of instrumental or orchestral pieces of tunes that are performed in a concert setting rather than as accompaniments. An etude is really a short music composition designed to provide practice in a particular technical skill within the performance of a solo instrument. A symphonic poem, also called a tone poem, is really a piece of orchestral music in a single movement where some extra-musical program gives a narrative or illustrative event.

Classical new music requires a powerful expertise of music and too as skill in playing an instrument. Expertise of audio should consist of the familiarity of development, modulation, variation, music phrases which can be of differing lengths, counterpoint, polyphony too as sophisticated harmony. The skill involved in playing an instrument demands the musician to get adept at sight reading, have the ability to coordinate with other players in the ensemble as well 1000 as experience in playing a composer’s audio.

The popularity of classical music has been debated for years. It has been stated that it really is strictly for upper-class citizens, and at the same time others have stated that it can be common with the working class. All in all, the popularity depends on what one particular considers to get classical songs. Selected staples of classical music are typically utilized commercially. Movies and television generally use standard clichd pieces of classical music to convey specific emotions to their audiences. In order for the commercial use of classical new music to get efficient, it has to rely on the fact that anyone who listens to the new music will recognize it and be emotionally drawn to it.

Classical audio has quite a few types that make up the genre, even though no specific form is implied in its description. The understanding and skill of classical musicians makes these musicians sought after for orchestras or symphonies. The commercial use of certain classical pieces helps to keep the classical music alive and offered to all classes of persons.

The author of the popular and well known Sandbox theme Scott Wallick, has made an announcement on his personal blog that he is selling the Sandbox domain Sndbx.com along with Plaintxt.org. The actual themes Sandbox and Plaintxt themes are not included in the sale since they have been developed and released under a GPL license. Scott explains his reasons for selling the domains:

I have withdrawn from the WordPress community. Active development of my themes and plugins has stopped simply because I am unable to continue the necessary development. In a way, they have a life of their own.

What started me to do this, are the various opportunities that have emerged in recent time, which can never itself to use, the lack of free time.

For this reason, I invite people who have the knowledge and willingness to work despite his regular work, as well as those who only this worked.

Mo developers, designers (preferably web designers), people who can come up with some contacts – potential customers, consultants, managers who would lead larger projects, etc. …

Mo also collaborators on the translation, saw, therefore, need people who we can be useful when working on software solutions. It does not really matter what you do, but whether it can be as able to be of use?
If you find a potential client to create websites or a complex software solutions, Join the team and help our development.

And now a few words about me.
My name is Tijana. I love to work in a team and creating something new, the programming viewed as art. I have a lot of ideas and can find clients who would pay the fine, but we especially need your reference, so I could get certain projects for our future team. Honest person and I do not like materialists and those who work in the interests of all.
This is important because we do not want to have a team of people who will hurt others.

If you thought music theory was a waste of time and not necessary to further your musical goals, then read these following 5 reasons why this is not true.

1.Read sheet music: Being able to play from any piece of sheet music. Well it may be hard to play BUT you can read it!

2.Be able to transpose: Say you are playing a piece from the sheet music you can now read but you think it sounds too high or too low, or just not right. Well now you can move it into a new key and play at a better singing.

3.Be able to modulate: You will be able to, with a few quick moves of the fingers, move your music into a new key with a succession of notes so pleasing to the ear it will bring a smile to your listeners faces.

4.It will increase your skill in improvising: Enough said.

5.Knowing music theory will help you recreate the sounds you enjoy in your favorite songs. Those fabulous chord progressions. The parts that give a song that certain sound. Gospel, Contemporary etc.

To learn music theory you don’t have to become a scholar on the subject. Just at least learn the basics. Getting a good music theory book and spending a few minutes a day reading from it and doing any included exercises can jump start your music playing.

Whether you are using a book, video, a real live human, or online lessons, keep these pointers in mind in order to get the most out our your studies.

1. Complete and master each section before moving on to the next: As you work through your studies make sure you have each new technique or idea conquered before moving on to the next. Lessons are planned to build upon each other and trying to rush through without fully understanding one will just lead to frustration and wasted efforts.

2. Study as if you were in school. Do some homework every night. If all you have is 15 minutes then use those 15 minutes. If you don’t have time to read/watch and apply then do the application of your last lesson or drills such as scales and chords. Reading/watching and not having the opportunity to apply immediately will usually mean you have to relearn your lesson. Take notes. Especially if you’re watching a video or working with a human. Also don’t be afraid to write all over your workbooks and sheet music.

3. Apply what you’ve learned: Play for others. Your church, your family, that spare piano sitting in your favorite department store (ask first). Nothing drives a music lesson home better than a recital. It will also magnify what you need to work on.

These tips work whether your a child or an adult. Learning to play an instrument is a wonderful activity.
